A New Record for the Truck!

Its hard to believe that I have already been here a full month!  Yes, the first month flew by quickly, just like everyone said it would.  July can't get here fast enough though.  :)

Today I set out to find the Victoria Market.  More than one person told me to check it out, so I figured what the heck!  Getting there was a cinch since I am an expert at riding the tram now (BAHAHAHA!).  Actually it was an easy trip, and what a trip it was too!  The market is in downtown Melbourne, which locals call the CBD (Central Business District).  Until today, I called it off limits.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that a whole new world existed just across the river.  Its incredible.  As soon as the tram crossed the river I was glued to the window.  There were people EVERYWHERE!  Being that there was so much to see and explore, I decided that I would walk part of the way home after the market.  For some reason I was feeling brave today and I wanted to be right in the middle of everything.

The market is super cool.  Anything that you can think of is available for purchase.  There are several bays, and each has its own category.  The clothing, belts, and other types of goods for sale were under a huge network of "tents".  Not the conventional tent that you might be thinking, but huge tents.  I really don't know how else to describe it.  Think of an open air market with a tented roof.  LOL!  There were rows and rows of them.  Vegetables, fruits, flowers, you name it and you could  buy it at the market.  A series of brick buildings surrounded the tents, and they housed the vendors selling meat, seafood, cheeses, and all that kind of stuff.  Naturally there were bakeries galore and tons of coffee joints.  Melbourne is known for their coffee.  Everybody drinks coffee, and they take it VERY seriously.

Thankfully the rain stopped just as I was leaving the market to begin my exploration of the CBD.  I have never seen so many people.  Yes, I have been to NYC on numerous occasions, but I swear there were more people here on the streets than in NYC.  Naturally I forgot to bring my GoPro video camera, but I had my iPhone.  Imagine me walking around the city filming with my iPhone.  Its safe to say that I was easily pegged as a tourist.  I didn't care though.

Every single block, nook, and alleyway was filled with shops.  I stumbled upon a mall that was like no other mall that I have ever seen.  It goes on, and on, and on, and on, and... Well you get the idea.  Enclosed pedestrian bridges and tunnels connected each block, and the mall just kept going.  I spent nearly 7 hours exploring the CBD and the market.  It was quite the day!

There are a few pictures below, and of course a video HERE.

PS- Do you know what the title implies?
