Market Weekend

Winter is approaching quickly here in OZ.  I am told that we are currently in autumn, which just screws up my head completely since it is nearly June.  Nonetheless, the point of this story is today was a beautiful day weather wise.  The temperature hovered around 68 degrees and the sun was shining the entire day.  I would be an outright liar if I didn't admit that this whole winter thing has me a bit scared.  Cold weather and grey days are not my friend.  I don't need any help getting irritable.

So what did I do?  Well, since I went to the Victoria Market yesterday I figured it was only fair to check out the Prahran Market today.  The Prahran Market is closer to me and in the familiar area of Commercial Street.  I hopped the tram to the market and had a meander.  It was a cool place but nothing like the Victoria Market.  The Prahran is probably 1/2 the size of the Victoria, but it is less hectic and very easy to explore.  There were plenty of vendors selling the freshest fruits, vegetables, seafood, meats, and anything else that is edible.  Not too many people though.  In fact, I would guess that there were less than 50 people in the entire complex.  It could be because it was Mother's Day.  Don't forget that we are a day ahead of most people.  In the end I bought a couple of items at the market and then went to Aldi's to buy a few additional groceries before returning home.

I returned to the hotel relatively early.   It was before 1pm for sure because I talked with Chris on FaceTime.  My point is that I still had an entire day to fill.  After sitting around for an hour or so I decided to head back to St. Kilda Beach.  Fine, I saw it last weekend but it was raining last weekend and the weather today was great.  Off I went!  The tram system and I are becoming close friends.  Who would have guessed?!?

With the weather being so nice I was able to explore the St. Kilda Beach area much closer.  There is a an awesome pier that jets out into the harbor and offers a great view of the city.  The real reason I went to the pier was to see the PENGUINS!  There is a colony of penguins that roosts in the pier's rocky base.  My intention was to shoot some video (naturally), but unfortunately the penguins don't come out until dusk and I wasn't going to sit there and wait.  I did spend a good hour on the pier doing some Tonka exploring (No Chris, I didn't break anything).  After the pier I stopped to have a drink with the two English blokes from last week.

It was a good weekend overall I guess.  New people, new areas explored, and almost a penguin sighting.  I still miss my blonde like crazy, and that is the hardest thing to manage to be honest.  A wise man once told me, "It is what it is."

Here are a few pics of the market and the pier.  Since my mom, Chris' mom, and other moms will be reading this on Sunday... Happy Mother's Day!  I love you!
